Palm Greenhouses

Create the Perfect Environment  for your Palm Trees

Many gardeners grow small palms in their living room, sunrooms, or kitchens. Palms can be kept outside in the summer and brought inside during the winter. Small palm varieties, such as beach palm and Sierra Madre palm, are suited to indoor growth. Solar Innovations, Inc. provides customized greenhouses tailored to gardeners interested in cultivating palms.

Solar Innovations, Inc.’s palm houses are custom designed to meet the needs of specific plant collections. Aluminum, which will not rot, warp, rust, suffer termite damage, or require constant finish maintenance, is used in all Solar Innovations, Inc. greenhouses. Two story greenhouses are available for those that wish to grow exceptionally tall palms and can easily accommodate trees up to 20 feet in height.

Banana trees, white bird of paradise, and Madagascar traveler’s trees are excellent companions to palm trees. A palm greenhouse can be attached to a building or be completely free-standing and utilize insulated, double pane glass. Palms can be grown in pots, on benches, or be planted directly into soil. Solar Innovations, Inc. offers benches for small and potted palm trees. This moves palms off the ground, can be cool at times, and allows for better air circulation.

Palms thrive in temperatures above 65 degrees. Solar Innovations, Inc. offers heating and cooling options for palm greenhouses, allowing owners temperature control. Ventilation allows hot air to escape and brings fresh air in through ridge vents and eave sashes. Circulating fans are utilized for air movement, keeping plants healthy and eliminating stagnant air.

Palm Greenhouse

Palms are a large species of plant, and much like orchids, warm and cool palms species exist. If you wish to grow both varieties, your greenhouse can be sectioned into “zones”. One room can have warm tropical palms with high humidity and temperatures. By adding a separating wall, palms found high in mountain regions, can be grown. These palms will require reduced temperature and humidity levels. Shades can be incorporated into either environment to cut down on direct sunlight, as palm leaves can easily burn. Drip and misting systems will cut down on watering done by hand. Drip systems can provide a slow and steady water supply to the palms. Humidifiers can be programmed to maintain specific humidity levels, typically, 50-60% for most palms.
