Islamic Conservatories

Islamic conservatories

Islamic conservatories feature many historically accurate architectural elements, while allowing for 21st century amenities like heat and central air. Historically, Islamic conservatories featured very little glass due to the Middle East’s hot climate. Instead, the conservatories were constructed of masonry walls with either glass or screen windows. Domes are common elements of Islamic design.

The domes can be used as skylights or solid roofs. Ridge cresting and finials can be designed to adorn these domes and rooflines. Traditional Islamic architecture is layered and tight with a great deal of visual interest. Islamic designed windows are often ogee, horse shoe, or clover leaf in shape and can feature transoms or grids.

Islamic conservatories were often used to enclose an outdoor courtyard and this design can easily be transferred into your Solar Innovations, Inc. conservatory. By adding a glass or traditional roof to the construction, the conservatory can be used year round. Most Islamic courtyards showcase a water feature, such as a reflecting pool. Jewel tone colors, tile, and furniture that is low to the ground enhance the Islamic style.
