Asian Conservatories

Asian Conservatories Design

Though the Asian culture does not refer their structures as conservatories, the architectural community would classify them as a conservatory. The style of architecture most known in this area consists of large timberwork, bucket arch buildings, and symmetrical designs. Only the exterior walls are load bearing, with interior walls serving only as separation. Many walls open up to the outside, allowing for sunlight to enter the building, as well as provide proper ventilation.

With Solar Innovations “Asian” style conservatories, many of these features can be found. Though framing members are not wood, a more durable material, aluminum, is used to mimic the post and beam style. Even though many temples are large and ornate, our conservatory designs can be small and simple to reflect the practical thinking of Asian culture.

Interior sliding partitions can be incorporated to open the interior spaces to the exterior, as well as vents and operable windows to allow ventilation. Exterior grids and SDLs can be used to create narrow divisions in pieces of glass which is also a common feature among Asian architecture.

The interior of an Asian Conservatory would typically feature a minimalist design, complimenting but never spoiling the beauty of the surrounding scenery. Colors such as black, grey, brown, and white are used as background colors, with reds and greens used as accidents. Interior materials commonly consist of timber framing, rice paper screens, bamboo, rock, and iron which aid in creating a seamless flow from interior to exterior spaces.
