Retirement homes can benefit from the use of glass architecture. Evidence based design recommends views of nature to increase residence happiness and recovery rates. A person able to view the outside and see landscaping is more relaxed and functions at a higher capacity. People may relieve stress by enjoying their natural surroundings through architectural glass.

Fixed windows and tilt turn windows (which are hinged at the bottom and tilt in at the top) allow for fresh air while providing safety and security. Operable doors, such as sliding doors and terrace doors are a familiar choice for the elderly and allow easy access. Activities can be held outside during comfortable weather, and fresh air can enter with the assistance of operable partitions. Sunrooms are another appropriate choice for senior living. They are a place where residents can socialize, complete therapy, and dine. Group activities can be held in a sunroom with views of the outside from a room that is heated or cooled. A hobby greenhouse can provide additional activity for residents. The elderly can socialize, garden, and use fine motor skills in this space. Canopies and walkways will protect staff and residents from the weather while traveling between buildings or waiting for a ride.
